15 Years of Shaping Financial Standards

Written by Marc Gratacos | Jun 16, 2026 10:26:44 AM

This month marks 15 years since TradeHeader was founded, and I want to take a moment to reflect on our collective journey. Looking back at what we have built, I have immense amounts of profound gratitude to our employees, partners, and clients. The individuals who have dedicated their expertise to this firm are the ones who have made our impact and growth possible.

Our Team is Everything

Every happy client, every solved challenge, every award we win, every cost we help clients manage, every reporting error we prevent, every new mandate we win, is all down to the incredible team we have built here.

Without each and every person who has contributed over the last decade and a half, this anniversary milestone would simply not exist. I am beyond proud that we have grown into a dedicated, tenacious and courageous team of around thirty experts handling some of the most intricate challenges in global financial standards.

When I started this business in 2011, I held a single, genuine belief that may have seemed idealistic at the time. I wanted to create the exact type of workplace where I would want to be employed. In those days, the traditional consulting sector was heavily populated by firms that treated skilled professionals merely as replaceable resources. It was common to see environments where colleagues had zero contact with anyone outside their immediate project, and where surface appearances were consistently valued over true technical substance. I was determined that our firm would operate on completely different principles.

From our very first day, we established core values that remain non-negotiable. We believe that workplace flexibility is a fundamental right rather than an optional benefit. We know that professionals perform at their best when they are respected and trusted, rather than constantly monitored or micromanaged. Within our walls, knowledge is meant to be shared openly instead of hoarded, and using the latest technology is a core obligation to our clients and to ourselves. Most importantly, I have always felt that authoritarianism has absolutely no place in TradeHeader’s culture. We have successfully maintained a space where people can learn something meaningful every single year, where people are not afraid to make mistakes and learn from them, and where mutual support is the core standard operating procedure. Simply put, open source sits at the heart of our business as much as it does for that of industry change.

Fifteen Years of Embracing Complexity so our Clients Don’t Have to

Our technical journey reflects a constant accumulation of domain expertise that now commands respect across the global financial sector. Our early days began with reviewing internal specifications for interest rate swaps based on financial product markup language. This quickly evolved into supporting major financial institutions with extensive system re-architecturing, defining internal data formats, and establishing long-term messaging offices to handle critical data models across investment banking units.

Over the years, our team expanded its capabilities far beyond derivatives messaging. We extended our technical scope to encompass electronic trading protocols like financial information exchange messaging, alongside international messaging standards for transaction banking that cover payments, securities, and loans. Rather than providing rigid off-the-shelf software, we committed to a tailored consultative approach that combines bespoke coaching, data modelling, and expert training. Our brilliant engineers have built and launched custom front-office converters, alongside advanced validation tools for international messaging standards, solving real-world data integration issues for global institutions.

We Have Become True Leaders in Global Open Source Initiatives

Our role in the industry shifted significantly as we began working closely with international trade associations to standardise post-trade event reporting. We are extremely proud to have been co-creators of some of the industry standards that have clarified the complexity of compliance. This deep collaboration contributed directly to the public release of the Common Domain Model (CDM). As this model transitioned to open-source foundations, our firm became a core co-maintainer of the standard, working alongside major global banking institutions and trade bodies to act as ongoing development stewards.

We became co-creators of the Digital Regulatory Reporting (DRR) framework and have continued to expand and develop its capabilities. We have guided the expansion of these product models to cover complex asset classes like commodities and return swaps across multiple jurisdictions. Today, our educational impact is clear, as our introductory course with a leading open-source foundation has attracted more than one thousand attendees, drawn from compliance teams across capital markets and leading institutions, and we deliver tailored compliance training to dozens of global banking entities. This collective hard work has resulted in industry accolades, including winning a prestigious member award from an open-source finance foundation and seeing our consultants recognised with individual community champion awards.

Embracing the Next Technological Horizons

The next fifteen years promise to be demanding and exciting in equal measure. The rapid evolution of digital regulation, market transformation, smart contracts and artificial intelligence will reshape our landscape completely. Yet, our core compass will stay the same. We will continue to invest heavily in our people, in cutting-edge technology, and in operating with complete integrity and supportive collaboration.

We are already actively preparing for these upcoming shifts through a formalised research and development ethos. Our dedicated developer teams are investigating the practical applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence, using a specialised side-projects division to create future compliance solutions. We want our people to always have this space to learn, discover, invent and play.

As we enjoy our 15th year anniversary celebrations, we know there is always more work to be done as financial markets evolve. I have total confidence that there is no better group of people anywhere on the planet to meet these complex challenges and I take the greatest pride from watching our professionals grow into leading industry experts who support one another daily.

Ultimately, our focus is on maintaining and further developing a distinct methodology and a lasting way of doing things that brings the maximum benefits possible to our clients - and to moving the industry forward.

So one more time, thank you from the bottom of my heart to all our employees, partners and clients over the years, for being part of this remarkable story.

Here’s to the next 15 years of excellence in everything we do.
